Vilnius Light Festival – Celebrate the Capital’s Birthday Surrounded by Light

Vilnius Light Festival, a celebration of art, technology and bright lights, and a welcome tradition marking the capital’s birthday, once again invites everyone to gather on this special day – the 25th of January. Now in its sixth year, the festival will continue until 28 January as the city celebrates its 701st birthday.

Light marks the most important moments. Every year, the Vilnius Light Festival creates an inspiring city-wide celebration to honour the capital’s birthday by showcasing an all-new light art exhibition that lasts several days. This year, Vilnius residents and guests will have the opportunity to experience the contributions of the participating artists, who are at the heart of the world’s current art scene, combining creativity, contemporary art and technology, on 25-28 January at 6-11 pm every night.

‘The Light Festival is a unique manifestation of cultural diversity, showcasing the ideas, original projects and artistic innovations of artists from different countries, and promoting international cultural exchange and dialogue,’ says Paulius Jurgutis, Director of the Vilnius Cultural Centre, the organiser of the Vilnius Light Festival.

This year, a modern light art gallery situated in the Old Town of the capital will host the 6th Vilnius Light Festival and feature 20 works of art – 15 light installations in the main programme and five additional exhibits. Each of them will tell its own unique story. Thousands of Vilnius residents and guests will enjoy the festival’s illuminated landmarks, churches, galleries, squares and courtyards. The exhibition will feature artworks by artists from Lithuania, France, Poland, Great Britain and the Netherlands.

Vilnius hosts almost 20 different festivals throughout the year to celebrate the city’s identity, but the Light Festival alone combines light art, music, and the power of modern technology. Despite its young age, this ambitious event can already boast an impressive, high-end and high-concept programme, internationally acclaimed guest artists, excellent reviews and thousands of supporters. Over the past five years, 91 projects from 18 countries have been featured in the main programme of the Vilnius Light Festival.
